What is encaustic?
Encaustic medium is a blend of refined beeswax and damar resin, which can be applied to a hard surface to bind and seal a multitude of collage-type materials including dried flowers, handmade paper, fibers, even beads and charms. Working with encaustic means you'll be working with hot wax. Different techniques will be demonstrated including using a heat gun, butane torch as well as a simple pancake griddle.
In this class, you'll be able to wander and select your own wildflowers for your botanical composition in addition to other materials provided. Each student will receive a wood plank canvas, access to wildflowers of their choosing, encaustic medium (move over modge podge!), and additional collage materials.
