Weaving with Rachel Thurber

  • Eco Arts Lounge 20 Lakeview Drive Nederland, CO, 80466 United States (map)

THIS CLASS IS A PART OF THE WILD ADVENTURERS / PEAK ARTISTS SUMMER NATURE CAMP SERIES.

ABOUT
We will be making llama and larger cardboard looms! First, we will decorate our cardboard llamas and make them into a loom. We will then learn the techniques of weaving and weave a blanket onto the llamas back with yarn. There will be an opportunity to make larger cardboard looms. This will give more space to experiment with different patterns. I can teach what is called a tapestry weave, which is more complex than the straight across weaving. This will allow them to make shapes within their weavings! Rachel will have her loom and participants may get an opportunity to make little weavings on it as well!

ARTIST BIO
Rachel Thurber is 25 years old and born and raised near Chicago, IL. She has always had a love for art, because it was the one thing she was able to have control over. After moving to Arizona to pursue her art at Arizona State University, she immediately became inspired by the environment that surrounded her. At that point she was taking all kinds of art classes, and found that fiber arts had a way of helping her cope in a way that nothing else could. She started weaving in 2017 and there was no turning back. Now, she currently resides in Fort Collins, Colorado, where she draws inspiration for her work from all the beauty our world has to offer.
