ABOUT
Join local mushroom expert Zach Hedstrom for an excursion into the mysterious world of wild mushrooms. At specific times of the year, the Colorado Rockies are home to a wide range of mushroom diversity. During this wild mushroom walk, Zach will educate participants on the fundamentals of hunting mushrooms in Colorado: when and where to pick, how to seek mushroom habitat, how to collect unknown mushrooms, and how to take a spore print for identification. He will also guide us through the process of identifying unknown mushrooms using local mushrooms found in the field during the foray.
INSTRUCTOR BIO/INFO
Zach Hedstrom is a long-time fungi enthusiast, mushroom cultivator and wild mushroom forager. His journey into the world of fungi began at 15 years old when he joined the Colorado Mycology Society, and began studying Colorado mushroom identification under the tutelage of local experts. Since that time Zach has become a community resource in local mushroom identification, mushroom cultivation, and advocate of diverse research into applications for native fungi in an environmental remediation setting. Zach owns and operates Boulder Mushroom, a local producer of fresh mushrooms, mushroom spawn, extracts, and community education in the field of mycology.
