Calling Environmental Educators!

    Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery is seeking instructors for the summer season to plan and implement hands-on, creative ecology workshops for youth.  Full and part-time positions available. Join us for a summer of teaching children and enjoying the mountains surrounding Nederland!

Workshops in the Wild run June 7-August 13, 2010.

Workshops in the Wild:

    Chautauqua Mornings (ages 5-7) takes place Monday through Thursday mornings, 8:30am-12:30pm at Chautauqua Park in Boulder.
    Watershed Mornings (ages 8-10) takes place Monday through Thursday mornings, 8:30am-12:30pm at Watershed School in Boulder
    Mountain Program consists of daily workshops in Nederland and targeting ages Mountain Rangers (age 5-7) Wild Trekkers (ages 8-10), and workshops for 11-15 year olds (seeking individuals to lead day programs with a strong knowledge of local flora and fauna).
    Location: Nederland Elementary School, 1 N Sundown Trail, Nederland (Mountain Program); or Chautauqua Park, 900 Baseline Rd, Boulder (Chautauqua Mornings) Watershed School, Boulder.
    Duration: Staff training June 1-4; programs run June 7-August 13
    Qualifications: Degree in education, environmental studies, natural science or related field. 2-3 years experience or 1,000 hours of leading groups of children in a nature-based camp. A strong background in local ecology is a plus. We encourage folks who have musical and creative strengths, a sense of humor, are kind and gentle, enjoy children and love the outdoors!
    Compensation: $105/day for full day workshops, $60/day for ½ day workshops

Environmental Education Internships~Summer 2010


Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery is seeking up to five interns for the summer season to assist in the planning and implementation of our youth programs. Chautauqua Mornings (ages 5-7) at Chautauqua Park in Boulder or Watershed Mornings (ages 8-10 year olds) at Watershed School in Boulder.  Our Mountain Program takes place Monday through Friday, 8am-6pm in Nederland offering workshops for ages 5-15.  Interns must be responsible, creative, enthusiastic, and dedicated to providing a safe and age-appropriate learning environment.

Qualifications:

  • Working towards a degree in Education, Environmental Education, Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management of related field.
  • Three positive references.
  • Clear background check from the Colorado Department of Human Services and the Colorado Department of Public Safety.
  • Experience working with youth desirable.

Duties:

  • Support lead instructor in all aspects of summer programs.
  • Supervise children while abiding by all of Wildlife Policies.
  • Ensuring safety of all participants.
  • Contribute to the planning and preparation of program activities.
  • Support other aspects of running a non-profit organization when needed such as helping with mailings, prepping and attending community events.

Duration: Staff training June 1-4; programs run June 7-August 12
Work Hours: 40 hrs/week between 8:00am-6:00pm M-F (Mountain Program); or 20 hrs/week 8:30am-12:30pm M-Th (Chautauqua Mornings or Watershed Mornings)
Compensation: $250 stipend per month for 40hrs/wk (Mountain Program); $125 stipend per month for 20hrs/wk (Chautauqua Mornings); will assist in location of housing; possible school credit; positive reference/letter of recommendation on successful completion of internship
