The Mountain Ecology Center at Mud Lake

Through the development of the Mountain Ecology Center on Wild Bear’s property at Mud Lake, we can further achieve the vision of inspiring the community, locals and visitors alike, to gather an off-grid center at 8,250 ft in elevation to experience and learn about our place in the natural world.

A place for all ages and all walks of life, the Mountain Ecology Center will achieve a wide range of goals, such as educating about how we can minimize our carbon footprint or how we can grow our own food at this high elevations, as well as encouraging an appreciation and love for this unique Rocky Mountain ecosystem.

Site Plan for the future Mud Lake Ecology CenterA community vision…

Nearly ten years of hard work towards the realization of the Mountain Ecology Center began with acquisition of 5 acres amid 3200 acres of preserved land, the subsequent clean up of 30 tons of trash from that land and, most recently, the unanimous approval of conceptual plans for the off-grid Center by Boulder County. Now the Mountain Ecology Center is working with partners to achieve the vision in whole: where local like-minded partnership organizations will work together to educate the public about their areas of expertise. This state of the art vision is collaborative in spirit and community-centered and sure to a place of great learning and inspiration for all.
